Synopsis

The simple and beautiful Moukan is the centre of many a thing happening in her village in the river island Majuli. As many as four boys claim to love her and she is completely unaware of it. A villager dies of a fatal sneeze instantly after a muffled "Why doesn't he die?" remark from her and she is socially considered a jinx. However, she doesn't do much about it, except talking angrily to herself and pinching her fingers time and again while doing embroidery. "And all the while awaiting a groom." - as one of the four boys remarks. The little (misdirected) effort that the four boys put forth to get the girl results in hilarity and not getting the girl at all. Instead, Moukan gets married to a government officer. However, this 'dream come true' marriage of Moukan doesn't last long.

Meanwhile, Moukan's childhood companion Luit, a life insurance agent and a silent witness to the four boys' collective endeavours of love and livelihood, catches a strangely prolonged cold. No doctor or healer could cure him. Then the villagers say that Moukan has a cure for this cold.
